Noctiluca Scintillations was written as a reflection on bioluminecent algae that contour oceanic coasts around the world. The piece has a colorful and unique orchestration, four trombone soloists and an octet, that help capture the vibrancy and complexities of a glowing ocean surf, rising and falling in controlled motion. While listening or performing the piece, you will hear four "waves" of music, each one growing and receeding at different paces and carrying similar melodic material in a different way. Each wave has it's own shape and is accented with the soloists' performance, much like the Noctiluca glowing on an ocean wave.
