I recently had the wonderful opportunity to go hiking in East Tennessee, so, when approached by Justin Waller, the trombone professor at East Tennessee State University, to write a piece for the ensemble, my mind instantly started bubbling with ideas inspired from the beautiful waterfalls and forests in the area.
Waters Awakening brings forth a triumphant, energetic fanfare and showcases technical facility of the ensemble through quick ostinati, exciting passages that move throughout the ensemble, and beautiful choral harmonies that will sparkle and shimmer over and around the memorable and striking melodies of the piece.
